Requesting a rate renegotiation while on an engagement

Your rate is established at the beginning of your engagement with our Match Team and is locked in for the duration of your contract. However, if your role changes or you've delivered exceptional work, you might want to renegotiate your rate.

Rate increases are never automatic and depend entirely on:

  • Your performance and contributions to the project (not tenure).
  • The client's budget and business needs.
  • The client's evaluation of your impact.

When should you request a rate renegotiation?

To maximize your chances of success, consider whether:

  1. Your scope of work has significantly changed or expanded beyond your original role
  2. You have delivered exceptional work and made significant contributions to your project

The client—not Andela—has the final say on rate adjustments. To support you, our Success Team will help assess the right time to renegotiate and guide you in building a strong case.

Since any new rate is fixed for at least one year, we advise you to approach the discussion thoughtfully.

How to request a rate renegotiation:

  1. First, review this Andela Community resource to learn how you can build a strong rate renegotiation case.
  2. Once reviewed, submit a request and choose "On engagements" > "Rate renegotiation."
  3. A Success Manager (SM) will reach out to you within 3 business days to discuss:
    • Your rate renegotiation reasons
    • Advise on next steps
  4. A SM will review the form to review your rate expectations and validate your request based on various factors, such as years of experience, skill set, and the market, to determine your fair market rate.
  5. The Success team will present your case and discuss the request with your client.
    • The expected timeline for a final approval decision is 30 days on average, so patience is appreciated. This checkpoint requires the client to review their budget or handle any unexpected changes.
  6. If your request is reasonable and approved by the client, it will be applied on a specific communicated date.
