What is the process for requesting time off?

It's important to make sure that you're communicating early and often to all stakeholders about any time off you're planning. Here is the process for requesting time off.

Process for submitting my time off:

  1. Speak with your client's engineering manager about your time off request with reasonable notice for approval. This includes requesting time off for local country holidays.
      • If the client gives no separate guidance, requests should be made at least four weeks in advance.
      • For eight or more consecutive leave days, please offer at least two months' notice.
      • Follow any client team protocols, such as sharing out-of-office days on a team calendar.
  2. Schedule time off on the Andela Talent Cloud
  3. Inform your Delivery Partner about your scheduled time off.

Be sure to also review these best practices when requesting time off. If you have any additional questions, connect with a Delivery Partner on Andela Community or submit a request to the Andela support team! We'd love to help you!

Additional considerations when requesting time off:

  • Contractors are not eligible for paid time off and will not be paid for any days not working. This includes national holidays.
  • The default for requesting time off is always client preference. The “best practice” guidance above should be followed if the client does not provide additional rules.
  • All technologists are expected to follow the time off request process. Late requests should be an exception, but we understand that urgent situations can arise. In the event of any last-minute requests, approval is at the discretion of the client and/or your Delivery Partner.
  • If you book time off but don’t take it, please update your Andela Talent Cloud dashboard or via the automated biweekly email ASAP. Failure to do so will result in your time off being processed and deducted from your paycheck.
  • Extended leave should not impact client deliverables when time off is taken; if your time off could negatively affect your client engagement, there may be a replacement consideration. These circumstances are very rare, however. We'll always work with you, your teammates, and your clients for the best possible solution.
