Here is a short list of profile writing best practices that complement our How to create a stellar Andela profile article.
- Talk about past jobs in the past tense and current jobs in the present tense
- Use complete sentences
- When discussing your experience, use descriptive verbs (e.g., directed, oversaw, conceptualized) to provide context and variety
- Contextualize acronyms and abbreviations by spelling it out the first time:
- 👎 Don't write: VDI
- 👍 Do write: Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI)
- Avoid personal pronouns (e.g., I, she, he, they)
- Proofread your profile for typos and errors – try the Grammarly Chrome extension, or something similar
- Use the active, rather than the passive voice:
- 👎 13% reduction in product cost was achieved. New procedure was implemented.
- 👍 Achieved a 13% reduction in product cost. Implemented a new procedure.
Here's an example of how to write your accomplishments:
Template: Accomplished A (the result) as measured by B (the specifics) by doing C (the action).
Example: (A) Improved the reported User Experience (UX) score of product Y (B) by 23% (C) by identifying and resolving bugs in the code.
