How to succeed in the Andela assessment

The Andela assessment is your chance to show what you can really do. A little preparation goes a long way and here's what to keep in mind.

Before you begin
  • Read the prep guide in full. The bolded sections in particular contain guidance that you can often miss. It takes 30 minutes and it's worth every minute.
  • Set an external timer. The platform has a built-in timer, but set a separate alarm after you start. It's a useful safety net if you step away or take a break between scenarios.
During the assessment
  • Take breaks between scenarios. You don’t have to complete everything in one sitting. Working in a focused, rested state will serve you better than rushing through.
  • Research is encouraged. Looking things up on Stack Overflow, documentation, or blog posts is not penalised — it's a normal part of engineering work. Just cite your sources if you use code snippets that aren't your own.

A few things to avoid is don't use AI where it isn't permitted. Each scenario clearly states whether AI assistance is allowed. Using it when it's not is a code of conduct violation and will disqualify your submission.

After you submit

If our system flags a potential code of conduct violation, you'll be notified via email. If you believe this is a mistake, you can appeal directly by replying to that email and include any evidence that supports your case. Our support team will review your appeal and reply with a decision within 72 hours.

Lastly, Andela assessments are designed to provide detailed, actionable feedback on your work. Perform well and you'll be better positioned for matching to high-quality roles through the Andela platform.
