Below are the primary elements of the Andela Community to easily navigate the community platform. Use the table of contents on the right hand side to quickly navigate through this guide.
Header
Four useful buttons.
- Hamburger: hide the side menu anytime
- Andela Logo: click on the Andela logo to go to the community homepage at any time.
- Find jobs: external link to Andela Talent Cloud
- Help Center: external link to our article hub.
User Panel
Located on the upper right side of the screen, the user panel allows you to edit your status, personal preferences, and settings and clear your notifications. When clicking the avatar icon, a panel will be displayed as below:
The User Panel is divided into the sections below:
- General notifications
- Replies
- Likes
- Personal Messages
- Bookmarks: Think of these are your “marked as unread messages”
- Chat messages
- Additional notifications
- Account: This menu is further divided into more sections: Summary, activity, drafts, preferences, pause notifications, and log out.
Profile
In this section, you can verify, edit, and update your profile information. To access this menu, navigate to Avatar photo > Account > Summary.
Username : Your username, e.g. john.doe. This cannot be altered, it is a required default for your profile.
Profile image: You can keep the default avatar picture, upload a profile picture from your device, or use a URL for your avatar.
Email : Your email address. Currently, this cannot be altered as it is linked to your Andela Talent Cloud account and profile. Rest assured that this information is private to you and Admins only.
Name: Your full name.
Title: Based on your community participation and user groups.
Flair: Chose your displayed user badge based on your user groups.
You can find additional settings and options by clicking on the tabs within your account.
Preferences
In the Preferences section, you can configure and set your own preferences. To access your preferences click on the clog on the upper right hand of your screen, or via the user pannel by clicking on Your Avatar > Account > Preferences.
Notifications
Your notification settings live under your user preferences in three different tabs: Notifications, Emails, and Chat.
Managing the sidebar
Your sidebar is broken down into four sections: Spaces, Channels, Private Messages, and global links. Remember, you can always hide the sidebar with the hamburger button in the header on the top left corner of the screen.
Rearrange your displayed spaces in the sidebar by hovering on the word “spaces” and clicking on the edit button.
Messages
All personal messages are synced with your email, unless you’ve manually changed your notification preferences. Access your messages from the top right icons bar or from the sidebar.
Your messages will be organized into an inbox:
When you start a new message, the composer will open - and you’ll be able to see your markdown or HTML formatting on the right-hand side of the screen. Make sure to include a title.
Message Formatting
You will find some messaging options depending on whether you are in a Space, Private Message or a Chat Channel.
- Spaces and private messages: You’ll have access to a full composer menu, and can utilize markdown or HTML to edit your posts.
- Channels: Emojis, text with formatting options (Markdown can be used for additional formatting), and uploading a file from your computer.
