Understanding the matching process at Andela: An complete FAQ guide

Below is a list of the most frequently asked questions about the match process. Our Match team works hard to seek opportunities for you that connect well with client requirements. Please check out the list below for your most sought-after answers.

How does matching work?
We have an AI process within the Andela Talent Cloud that only matches skills entered by the client and the skills showcased in your profile. However, we also utilize human matching which considers work experience using those skills, the assessment process you completed when joining the network, your past work experience, and feedback from Andela's clients. Additionally, human matching focuses on determining a fit considering the nuances of your people skills and how best they synergize with the client’s expectations and work environment.

When will I be matched for a job?

Being matched for a job on the Andela Talent Cloud depends on many factors, including:

  • Having a complete profile that showcases your skills, work experience, and the years imputed for each skill.
  • The programming language that you are using and want job notifications about. Market trends may change job demands when new languages or frameworks are introduced.
  • Having a Profile Editor review your profile (everyone automatically enters the profile review queue when entering the network) to improve your narrative, which is key for your marketability.
  • Having a competitive rate that will fit a client's budget.

When should I reach out to a matcher?

It is best to reach out to a matcher when:

  • You want advice on setting competitive rates to increase your chances of securing a contract.
  • If you are currently engaged and contracted but have doubts about the project, the client, or the contact itself.
I have not heard back about a job I applied for. When should I expect a response from a matcher?
You can check the status of a job you applied to directly on the Andela Talent Cloud. A response from a matcher is dependent on whether your application will be presented to a client. Matchers review a very high load of applications for each job, so you will likely not hear back from a matcher for most jobs you apply for. That is because:
  • Matchers experience a high load of applications and direct messages from applicants -- an average of 50 messages per day.
  • Based on timing, some jobs could already have other technologists interviewing with the client. Matchers will then suspend additional application reviews.
  • We recommend that you read the job description updates carefully because matchers will post when no new applicants are needed for a job.

Why are there no job results for the skills that I am searching for?

Currently, all available jobs are published on the Andela Talent Cloud. If you do not see published job opportunities for a particular skill, that means that we don’t have jobs. However, in this dynamic market, we are posting new jobs daily, so we strongly recommend you check for jobs daily as well on the Andela Talent Cloud. Our clients follow the trends on the latest technologies, so consider picking up a new programming language or framework to secure an engagement contract.

Why are there time zone or geographic restrictions for some jobs?

  • Some clients have a time zone requirement for daily meeting attendance and to work simultaneously with the other developers on the same project.
  • Additionally, clients may have internal and external (fiscal or governmental) policy restrictions that limit certain work geographies.
  • Most jobs do not fall within this category, since Andela diligently negotiates client work contracts to ensure that most are accessible talents within the network.

Am I required to search for jobs on the Andela Talent Cloud?

At the moment, it is not required that you search for jobs on the Andela Talent Cloud to secure an engagement. Matchers are actively looking for technologists within the network to contract them for jobs.

When should I apply for a job on the Andela Talent Cloud?

Please only apply for jobs with the Andela Talent Cloud where you meet all the must-have requirements noted in the job description; otherwise, you'll be disadvantaged against more experienced and senior applicants.

How can I adjust my rate and other details if I join Andela through an agency?

Most Andelans can set their own rates and details without needing to go through their contracted agency. However, there are a few agencies that still manage logistics solely through the agency. If you find that you can't update your rate on your profile, please reach out to Talent Support to clarify your situation.
