Set up 2-Step Verification

Follow the steps below to set up 2-Step Verification for the Google Workspace. For Talents in Canada🇨🇦 , Nigeria 🇳🇬  and Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦 , click here for a workaround. Be sure to have a mobile phone available during setup.

Step 1. Go to myaccount.google.com/security

Step 2. Scroll down the page to the Signing into Google section. On the right side of the page, click on the 2-Step Verification option.

Step 3. In the next page, click on the Start setup button on the right-hand side.

Step 4. Enter the phone number for the device you want to receive a numeric code on whenever you sign in from an untrusted computer or device.

Then, select whether to receive the codes via Text message or Voice Call. Then click Send code.

Step 5. A text message or voice call (at phone number provided in previous step) will provide a numeric code

On your computer, enter the six-digit code in the field provided and click Verify.

Step 6. Next, click Confirm to turn on 2-step verification.

Step 7. In the new window, click Reconnect my apps if you access your Gmail, Calendar, and/or contacts on an iPhone, iPad, Mac Mail client, or Android Phone.

If you do not use these types of devices or applications with your Google Apps account, click Do this later and skip to step 10 below.

Step 8. If this does apply to you, you will need to create an application-specific password to enter on your device (ONE-TIME SETUP). Application-Specific Passwords allow you to continue accessing your account data on these devices, without the need to enter a verification code every time you use the device.

To generate an application-specific password, use the drop-down menu to select the type of data (e.g. Mail, Calendar, Contacts).

Next, use the drop-down arrow to select the type of device (e.g. Gmail on iPhone or Gmail on iPad).

Click GENERATE when completed.

Step 9. A 16-digit code will appear. This app-specific password should be entered in the password field of your account information on your device, instead of your regular password.

For example, if you are creating an app-specific password for your Mail on your iPhone, go to Settings on your iPhone and select Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Next, select your Google Apps account and enter the app-specific password in replace of your regular password.

Click Done when completed.

Step 10. Back on your Account settings page, click on 2-Step Verification.

Step 11. On the next page, review your 2-step verification settings and set backup options for when your primary is unavailable.

It is recommended to add a Backup phone number

It is recommended to Print or download a list of backup codes to use when your phone is unavailable. Keep your backup codes someplace accessible like your wallet.

You’re done! The next time you sign in, you’ll receive a text message or voice call with a verification code. The verification code can also be generated by Google Authenticator, a mobile app that you can download on Android, BlackBerry, or iOS devices. Follow the instructions in this Help Center Article to download the Google Authenticator for your device type.
