Step 7. In the new window, click Reconnect my apps if you access your Gmail, Calendar, and/or contacts on an iPhone, iPad, Mac Mail client, or Android Phone.

Step 8. If this does apply to you, you will need to create an application-specific password to enter on your device (ONE-TIME SETUP). Application-Specific Passwords allow you to continue accessing your account data on these devices, without the need to enter a verification code every time you use the device.

To generate an application-specific password, use the drop-down menu to select the type of data (e.g. Mail, Calendar, Contacts).

Next, use the drop-down arrow to select the type of device (e.g. Gmail on iPhone or Gmail on iPad).

Click GENERATE when completed.

Step 9. A 16-digit code will appear. This app-specific password should be entered in the password field of your account information on your device, instead of your regular password.

For example, if you are creating an app-specific password for your Mail on your iPhone, go to Settings on your iPhone and select Mail, Contacts, Calendars. Next, select your Google Apps account and enter the app-specific password in replace of your regular password.

Click Done when completed.

Step 11. On the next page, review your 2-step verification settings and set backup options for when your primary is unavailable.

It is recommended to add a Backup phone number

It is recommended to Print or download a list of backup codes to use when your phone is unavailable. Keep your backup codes someplace accessible like your wallet.

You’re done! The next time you sign in, you’ll receive a text message or voice call with a verification code. The verification code can also be generated by Google Authenticator, a mobile app that you can download on Android, BlackBerry, or iOS devices. Follow the instructions in this Help Center Article to download the Google Authenticator for your device type.
