Benefits and policies for full-time technologists: Rwanda

This guide outlines the key benefits and administrative processes for technologists with full-time status in Rwanda to ensure a smooth onboarding experience and continued alignment with Andela’s Onboarding policies. 

Medical & Life Insurance

  • Comprehensive medical coverage for the technologist and their immediate family

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) Stipend

  • $1,500 for employees in non-technical roles.
  • $2,500 for employees in technical roles.

Internet Allowance

As Andela Rwanda operates fully remotely, employees are entitled to a monthly internet allowance of 147,271 RWF

Leave Policy

  • Annual leave: Employees are entitled to 21 days of annual leave
  • Public holidays: All nationally recognized public holidays are observed.
  • Maternity leave: 12 weeks of fully paid maternity leave.
  • Paternity leave: 2 weeks of paid paternity leave.
  • Sick leave: An employee who has completed at least one month of continuous service at Andela and is unable to work due to sickness or injury is entitled to the following:
      • Any absence due to illness exceeding two (2) days requires a doctor’s note upon the team member's return to work.
      • Team members are entitled to a maximum of 30 working days of paid sick leave.
      • For the next 30 days, team members will receive half of their monthly remuneration.
      • If the illness extends beyond 60 days, the team member will not receive any pay for the additional 30 days.
  • Additional leave notes: 
      • All leave and Out of Office (OOO) days must be recorded in Workday.
      • Annual leave requests must be submitted to your supervisor at least 4 weeks in advance.
      • For leave requests exceeding 8 consecutive days, submit at least 8 weeks in advance.
      • Ensure that relevant stakeholders are informed via Out of Office notifications.

Payment Policy

  • The payroll cycle closes on the 10th of each month. Any changes made after this date will be reflected in the next cycle.
  • Payments are disbursed on the 25th of each month.
  • Salaries are transferred to the employee's bank account provided in Workday. Required details include the bank account number, SWIFT code, and IBAN.

  • Work Permit (for foreign nationals)
