In order to ensure a professional, productive environment, Andela has created guidelines and terms of use for our community space, Andela Chat. Please carefully read the terms of usage in the following slides and always remember two things:
- Andela is a professional network that prides itself on being diverse and inclusive.
- Disrespecting these terms of use will result in suspension and/or removal from Andela Chat.
Keep it civil
Impassioned debate is a beautiful thing when it happens in a respectful manner. A heated conversation is no bad thing; however, please keep in mind that this is a diverse and professional community, and certain topics that seem innocuous to you may carry a lot of meaning (or be quite controversial) to others. In order for meaningful discussions to thrive, we all need to remember to talk about ideas, not people.
Remember to avoid name-calling, personal attacks, and responding to a post’s tone instead of the actual content. Comments that we find to be hateful, inflammatory, or harassing will be removed. It’s the golden rule: If you don’t have something nice to say about someone else, don't say it. Treat others the way you’d like to be treated.
Keep it tidy
Help make everyone’s lives easier by taking a moment to ensure that what you’re about to post is in the right place. This means:

- Don’t post off-topic comments or discussions: check the list of channels to find the appropriate one for your topic.
- Don’t cross-post the same thing multiple times, in multiple channels or teams.
- Review any specific posting guidelines for each channel (or team), as some may have specific guidelines.
- Please check if another active discussion on your topic has already been posted. If so, please join the existing thread.
If you see a problem, say something

- Moderators are at the forefront of combating spam, mediating any disputes, and enforcing community guidelines — and so are you.
- If you see an issue, please contact the channel (or team) moderator. Moderators can be found with the ‘Moderator’ badge in the members' tab of the channel/team. Alternatively, please report the message by selecting the three-dot menu of the message and selecting report.
- If you believe someone has violated the rules, report it to a member of Andela’s community team via direct message.
- If you still need help, contact our Community team at community@andela.com.
Stay on topic
Be sure your topic matches the channel's general theme. If you're not sure if you’re posting to the right channel, check the channel’s information sidebar or scroll through its content to get an idea of what subjects are appropriate.
Mind your words

- Comments that contain profanity, explicit content, or harassment are subject to removal.
- Profanity used to insult, antagonize, or inflame will always be removed once found, and the poster may be subject to additional repercussions, including (but not limited to) suspension or ban from Andela Chat and/or removal from the Andela Talent Network.
- Please notify the Community team at community@andela.com of any seriously inappropriate behavior or breaches of the Andela Community Code of Conduct.
Follow the rules
Anything that violates the Andela Community Code of Conduct, and/or Andela’s policies will not be tolerated. This includes, but is not limited to:

- Harassment
- Sexism
- Racism
- Misogyny
- Homophobia
- Broad, offensive generalizations about people groups
- Comments or discussions written intentionally to provoke
